Bovine Ultrasound roadshow - 19-23 January 2009 with workshops being held at centres around New Zealand
These hands-on workshops, with one-to-one tuition while scanning cows, will teach you how to accurately age bovine pregnancies.
Increased accuracy of ageing pregnancies is now required. The induction code and new initiatives such as the In-Calf project require accurate information at pregnancy test time. The key benchmarking measurement for the In-Calf project is the herds 6-week in calf rate. This can only be determined through an accurate herd pregnancy test and this puts your skills to the test!!
You'll learn:
- The types of ultrasound equipment, how they work and how to look after them
- How to find the foetus and use foetal size and structure to age the pregnancy
- The limitations of ultrasound scanning and how to make it easier for you and the cow
- How Infovet can assist with data management
- The essentials of ovarian scanning and foetal sexing
Workshops are limited to 6 people per farm - so be in quick.
Your tutors are Steve Cranefield (VetEnt Otorohanga) and Laura Young (Elanco Animal Health). Both Steve and Laura have considerable practical experience in the ultrasound ageing of pregnancies.
The workshops are timed so that the pregnancies are between 5 and 12 weeks gestation.
